Coming Soon… this appraisal cycle

These days it’s almost a trend for every other Director to re-make the All-Time-Commercial-Hits. Imagine if similar idea clicks to an IT veteran; how the Movie Titles would be like.
You may notice some screwed up or un-touched Titles because of resource or fund issues.
Also, some movies may be dubbed in multi-Language to capture the broader market.

Random Thought…

S
unday evening is undoubtedly the worst part of the entire week. Even feel good factor is hard to come by when office looks hardly few hours away. So, as usual thought to start preparing for Monday. Went for shaving and all of a sudden random ideas started flowing in.

Here is collection of those random ideas and observation…

clip_image001 I don't know what’s so funny about my face; I always get funny ideas while shaving.

clip_image001[1] From last one week my roomy don't even smile at my joke, he thinks I am doing
comedy exercise. Seems, he saw me reading - "How to think comedy?"

clip_image001[2] Whole day today I have been cooking for some guests from office whom I don't really know. Now I remember, yesterday in office while opening the door for them, I had told them - "Be my Guest".

clip_image001[3] I prefer to read comedy books in toilet. If it doesn't make me laugh, at least I won't feel I wasted time.

clip_image001[4] In a comedy class, a teacher punished a student in a unique manner; tell 5 jokes that will make other fellow students laugh but not me. Having no option, student told his last night experience with Teachers daughter.

clip_image001[5] Height of legal parenting –
A middle-aged woman called a smarty guy to say her daughter has crush on him. After 2 years, smarty gets a call from woman's lawyer husband who invites him on their daughter's 18th birthday.

clip_image001[5]Who says there is no side effect of Comedy, I read it somewhere -
According to snopes.com, in 1975 a man named Alex Mitchell of Norfolk, England, died from laughing too hard at a sketch he saw on the television show, The Goodies. He could not stop laughing for twenty-five minutes and suffered a fatal heart attack.

Before putting this here, I asked one of my friend, whom I consider my all time advisor, if there is anything in this world that can be funny for everyone and he replied - “It might be funny to ‘Some’ and not to ‘Others’, but it will never be funny to everyone.”

You know what? I am feeling lucky that you are "Some" from everyone. I find it so easy to connect with ‘Some’ rather than with ‘Others’.

Here is something for ‘Others’ who falls on other part of everyone (this was the hardest one to frame though).

This evening I called my Mom and started the usual crib about life and she said - “Beta it’s all because you are not changing your outlook.”
And guess what?
I migrated to Lotus Notes. You See, Momma's Boy.

I've Learned!

I've learned -
that it takes years to build up trust,
and only seconds to destroy it.

I've learned -
that it's not what you have in your life
but who you have in your life that counts.

I've learned -
that it's not what happens to people
that's important. It's what they do about it.

I've learned -
that no matter how thin you slice it,
there are always two sides.

I've learned -
that it's taking me a long time
to become the person I want to be.

I've learned -
that it's a lot easier
to react than it is to think.

I've learned -
that you can keep going
long after you think you can't.

I've learned -
that we are responsible for what we do,
no matter how we feel.

I've learned -
that either you control your attitude
or it controls you.

I've learned -
that learning to forgive takes practice.

I've learned -
that there are people who love you dearly,
but just don't know how to show it.

I've learned -
that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I've learned -
that my best friend and I can do anything
or nothing and have the best time.

I've learned -
that sometimes when I'm angry
I have the right to be angry,
but that doesn't give me
the right to be cruel.

I've learned -
that maturity has more to do with
what types of experiences you've had
and what you've learned from them
and less to do with how many
birthdays you've celebrated.

I've learned -
that your family won't always
be there for you. It may seem funny,
but people you aren't related to
can take care of you and love you
and teach you to trust people again.
Families aren't biological.

I've learned -
that no matter how good a friend is,
they're going to hurt you
every once in a while
and you must forgive them for that

I've learned -
that it isn't always enough
to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes you have to learn
to forgive yourself.

I've learned -
that our background and circumstances
may have influenced who we are,
but we are responsible for who we become.

I've learned -
that two people can look
at the exact same thing
and see something totally different.

I've learned -
that even when you think
you have no more to give,
when a friend cries out to you,
you will find the strength to help.

I've learned -
that the people you care most about in life
are taken from you too soon.

I've learned -
that it's hard to determine
where to draw the line
between being nice and
not hurting people's feelings
and standing up for what you believe.

I've learned -
that writing, as well as talking,
can ease emotional pains.

The Constant Change…

Someone rightly quoted - "The only thing Constant in the world is Change"
Everything we see, we do, and everywhere we go, there are changes. Change remains the fundamental truth in every aspect of human existence.

Journey of change begins as a toddler, when you desperately learn to walk and it continues for entire life. Few years down the line your vocabulary count grows to hundred and than the rate of changes accelerates exponentially.

From kinder garden -> School -> College -> Professional life, every part of transition is carried through changes and apparently in parallel, personal life adapt to those changes.

But as you move ahead in life, slowly you start developing the fundamental attitude of resisting the changes. Pragmatically, neither part of the change pose as much discomfort as the change itself. However, it is the sense of living in the Comfort Zone that makes thing scariest, when things suddenly change for a person.

In terms of economics one can use the opportunity cost to decide whether to accept or reject the changes, but in life no one gets the chance to do so;  changes are inevitable.

Sometimes you even feel the need to get hurt to realize to the change for the betterment of life, but guess what!
With all these changes, the only thing which remains is you and yourself.

Life with its sweet facade may crumble as changes happen and it may crumble you too if you don't handle the transition smoothly.

Life is too precious a gift to be wasted in any form and you can't enjoy the gift if you become impervious to changes.

Let’s welcome the change as we do to Sunrise and salute it the way Kalidas did with his awesome words:

Listen to the Exhortation of the Dawn!
Look to this Day!
For it is Life, the very Life of Life.
In its brief course lie all the
Verities and Realities of your Existence.
The Bliss of Growth,
The Glory of Action,
The Splendor of Beauty;
For Yesterday is but a Dream,
And To-morrow is only a Vision;
But To-day well lived makes
Every Yesterday a Dream of Happiness,
And every Tomorrow a Vision of Hope.
Look well therefore to this Day!
Such is the Salutation of the Dawn!!

Get well Soon - U Sleeping Beauty!!!

There is one stock which has been pissing me off continuously for 6 Qtr now. Till now, though I have tracked and traded many stocks, this still remains among my favourites. She is none other than Chandra's daughter, the Sleeping beauty - UNITECH.

I started tracking UT somewhere in Q3, 2007-08 and soon after it touched its life time high of 546.

It was 21-Jan-2008 (no investor can forget this day, who at that time, had at least a single penny invested in the market), when like many others it started sucking up capital in line with crumbling market trend.

Every Qtr, it made new lows and so called market expert kept on drawing funny technical chart for 50/200 DMA.

I said enough to my patience and entered this stock @29-30 towards of end of Nov-08.

As per the If-Else logic (this logic has more history and evidence than Indian Cricket team has of winning) this went down further and a week after touched the life time low of 23.15.

It did recover to some extent but as I quoted, I loved this sleeping beauty and did not even think of selling at break-even price. Finally, somehow, principal of profit booking (actually, minimizing loss) instigated me to sell at 40+.

I was just expecting for the If-Else script to get executed and it happened in a big way with Incumbent Govt. getting absolute majority; UT went past three figures on June 5th, though not on closing chart.

I had to wait for few more months and apparently, price stabilized in the range of 75-80. UT was again part of my portfolio.

Since then, it has never failed to exasperate me with her sleeping beauty.

UT tops the NSE volume chart almost on daily basis, yet the price movement can beat the pace of a tortoise. Sometimes, it remains at .12% up/down for hours. Consistency is just the perfect name coined for UT.

It’s price linearity can make you even think of a World tour and weeks down the line expect UT to welcome you at the same price.

O my sleeping beauty, despite of all this you look attractive sitting at the top of NSE volume chart.

Your collateral strength to re-structure every bit of debt makes me so confident of you.
Your million square foot of Land spread over the tier-1 cities of country makes it worth gleaming.
Your Q3 Thumka (of 29% jump in bottom line & 58% jump in top line growth during same period of previous fiscal) on Y-O-Y basis pushed the realty giant DLF way back in the race.

You, country's 2nd biggest realty firm, were the fastest wealth creator since 2004 with staggering CAGR of 122% (in stock price).
Your network is just getting better with Telenor.

I don't like your EPS or dividend history but with Debt-to-Equity ratio at less than 60%, you give optimism to portfolio.

Highlights from Q3, 2009-10 result:

  • 29.37% jump in net profit at 176 Crore, against 136 Crore during the same period of previous fiscal.
  • Total income increased to 774.46 Crore, against 491.24 Crore during the same period of last financial year.
  • Net Debt-to-Equity as of Dec 31, 2009, stood at healthy level of 0.55.
  • Currently it has 60 projects under construction.

With your latest lovely figures, I just wish................

Get Well Soon, U Sleeping Beautyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
